Riding
Finding Bikes
Find stations to pick up or park ebikes through the PikeRide app. Purple balloons show bikes and parking areas and gray balloons show parking areas with no bikes. Each station displays the current number of ebikes available to rent at that location. Turn WiFi off and Bluetooth on in your phone settings when using PikeRide to prevent connectivity issues.
Beginning a Trip
Scan an ebike to unlock and begin a trip. If a bike is not unlocking properly, slightly turn the rear wheel to reposition the spoke which can prevent the bike from unlocking. Bike baskets can hold up to 15 pounds of weight, please do not store valuable items or sit in the baskets.
Riding
PikeRide ebikes are available 24/7, 365 days of the year and can be ridden on any road, sidewalk, or urban trail where bikes are permitted. eBikes can be ridden outside of the purple service area outlined in the app, but trips may not be ended outside of the service area. Riders must be 16 or older. Please respect dismount zones in downtown Colorado Springs, Old Colorado City, and Manitou Springs. PikeRide ebikes are not permitted on single track, in creek beds, or in sand.
Adjust the ebike’s seat height with the seat clamp on the seat post below the seat. Tuck the cable loop under the seat before riding to prevent the cable from tangling in the wheel. Use both handlebar brakes to stop or slow the ebike down. Enable the electric assist by pedaling or disengage by pedaling backward.
Ending a Trip
End your trip by securing the ebike to a PikeRide rack or public bike rack or post within the service area. Trips cannot be ended outside of the service area. If you’ve already locked your bike outside of the service area, you may still unlock the bike and ride back to the service area to end your trip.
Take an end trip photo from behind the ebike, showing the rear wheel lock, cable loop secured within the lock, and the rack or post which the ebike is secured to. See our End Trip Photo page for specific examples. eBikes can be parked at any PikeRide station for free, or any public bike rack or post within the service area for a $1 out-of-station convenience fee.
Exception: eBikes parked on the Colorado College campus must be parked at a PikeRide station. Parked ebikes must always be publicly accessible and cannot be parked on private property or locked with a personal bike lock.
-
You can make mid-trip stops in and out of the service area by properly securing your ebike to a rack or post without ending your trip in the app.
Mid-Trip Stops Inside Service Area
Mid-Trip Stops Outside Service Area
Return to your ebike, unlock it, and continue riding. Like a cab ride, while you are stopped and your ebike is locked, you will continue to accrue time until you return the service area and properly end the trip in the app. Trips cannot be ended outside of the service area.
-
You can check battery level in the PikeRide app on the home screen by clicking on a station. A window will show the available ebikes and the battery percentage of each ebike. Riders are responsible for monitoring battery levels while on a trip, which is always visible in the app.
-
A fully charged ebike can travel up to 20 miles, though travel time is impacted by the rider’s body weight and the terrain the rider is traveling on.
Troubleshooting
Enable Bluetooth and disable WiFi whenever using the PikeRide app. This often prevents and resolves frozen loading screens, incorrect location reading, and other common technical issues.
-
If you are unable to submit a photo at the end of your trip, don’t panic! Just make sure it’s secured to a publicly accessible rack or post and send us a message through the app. Watch our troubleshooting tutorial here.
-
On the home screen of the app, click on your name in the upper left corner and then select “payment methods”.
-
For your safety, never ride a damaged ebike. Report problems or damage via the app or by calling us at 719-235-5862.
Fees and Fines
Fines can be avoided if ebikes are used properly. Improper use, damage, or theft impacts our ability to provide public transportation and warnings and fines will be issued for irresponsible use. Fines increase for repeated offenses and multiple offenses lead to suspension. Your cooperation enables PikeRide to provide equitable transportation for our community.
Common Fines:
Parking convenience fee: Riders are charged a $1 convenience fee when trips end within the service area and outside of a PikeRide station.
Submitting an unclear end trip photo.
Ending the trip without properly securing the ebike to a rack or post.
Ending the trip on private property.
Securing the ebike to a tree.
Leaving the ebike outside of the service area.
Retrieval of ebikes left outside of the service area will result in a substantial fee.
Parked ebikes impeding ADA/handicap accessibility ramp or blocking pedestrian traffic.
