Meet Montrale, one of many driven PikeRide+ participants who regained independence through accessible transportation.
While waiting for the bus one morning, he saw a student riding to class on a PikeRide. His discovery of an alternative mode of transportation, one where he could control where to go and when to get there, was the catalyst to taking charge of his future and his daughters’ futures.
Montrale applied for our ebike leasing program and utilized his leased ebike to control his schedule and arrive to work early each day, rather than waking up two hours early to ensure he had a spot on the bus, as he had done each day before. PikeRide+ became the tool he needed, he was granted the opportunity to put his work ethic into action.
“Because I used that bike, and I was on time every day and worked - and worked hard - I’m going to be becoming shift lead at the place I started working. I made appointments, doctors appointments, I even made it to one of my daughters’ volleyball games on it.”
Having personalized transportation opened up opportunities for Montrale from work promotions to securing housing.
“I’m supposed to be moving into my house on the 1st of the month and if it wasn’t for them (PikeRide)... I probably would've gotten fired. I was starting off as a temp, and because of my promptness because of the bike, I got hired on and it just worked out.”
Through earning a promotion at work and shaving hours off of his daily commute, Montrale eventually obtained his own personal vehicle, which was the first step to regaining custody of his two children.
“Man, I’m gonna be honest, if it wasn't for you (PikeRide) I would've given up a long time ago. The only reason why I came to Colorado is for my children and you guys made it possible for me to do everything that I needed to do.”
After acquiring his own personal vehicle, Montrale has since returned his ebike to be leased to the next PikeRide+ participant, and believes in the power of PikeRide+ so strongly that he has offered to pay for two months of the program for another individual experiencing a difficult time.
