PikeRide Celebrates the Success of Transportation Equity Program
73 Participants Traveled 7,615 Miles in 3,983 Trips
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. August 5, 2024 – Local nonprofit electric bike share, PikeRide, proudly announces the successful impact of a 2023 Colorado Energy Office Community Access to Electric Bikes grant project. PikeRide’s transportation equity program PikeRide+ (pronounced PikeRide Plus), has empowered low-income residents with essential transportation services that helped keep people housed and employed.
Since its launch in October 2023, PikeRide+ has provided qualified low-income residents living in disproportionately impacted areas with leased ebikes for $25 a month. This program increased access to ebikes, closed local transportation gaps, and addressed needs across 12 Colorado Springs zip codes.
PikeRide+ Impact
Equipping those facing transportation barriers with affordable ebikes has enabled 37 participants to remain housed in transitional and permanent housing. Many participants have been able to maintain employment and attain access to necessities like grocery stores and social centers such as the library through personalized ebike transportation.
“This bike has been a serious life saver for me over the last few months and your staff have been second to none in the way of excellence. I really appreciate all you guys have done for me... You have no idea how much this bike has benefitted me and I can't thank you enough.” Stated one PikeRide+ participant.
In addition to the program’s individual benefits, the program has helped improve air quality through the reduction of 583.17 pounds of CO2 and two-fold has improved many participants’ physical and mental health.
